Newsies: ESRT's 5th Annual Theatre on the Bluff

Eastern Shore Repertory Theatre (ESRT) will bring Disney’s Newsies to Henry George Park in Fairhope for the fifth annual Theatre on the Bluff on May 3-5, 2018. Newsies will be co-directed by Erin Langley and David Redman Scott with choreography by Matthew Kiel. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m., and gates will open at 6:30 each evening. Patrons should bring their own blanket or lawn chair, and picnics are encouraged. Concessions will also be available for purchase. Tickets are available online or can be purchased at the gate on the night of the show if space is still available. In the event that a performance must be canceled due to inclement weather, a rain date performance will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2018. All tickets are non-refundable. For more information, visit www.easternshorerep.org. Newsies is inspired by the real-life "Newsboy Strike of 1899” in New York City at the turn of the 20th century. Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged "newsies," who finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right. Newsies features a score by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Founded in 2012, Eastern Shore Repertory Theatre provides innovative, high-quality theatre experiences for the Eastern Shore community, including musical theatre summer camps, dance and musical theatre classes, participation in Junior Theater Festival, the world’s largest musical theater festival for young people, and two major productions each year. ESRT productions entertain approximately 15,000 audience members annually and include the fall show which features a cast of 50-70 area students aged from 3rd-12th grade and the popular Theatre on the Bluff held each spring featuring performers of all ages.
