      Celtic Cowboy Christmas

A treasured Myrna Loy Christmas tradition it is, this warm-hearted evening that takes you into the deep, quiet joy of the season. Come share stories, song, laughter, memories, and soul cakes (made by the young pros in the Helena High culinary program.)

About Dublin Gulch:  Montana’s Butte-Irish band, Dublin Gulch, is the voice of the miner, the lilt of the Irishmen, the rhythm of the Montana landscape, and the spirit of the hopeful heart. They hold their own with the Celtic best across the world, with a sound so true and rooted it could only come from Butte, Montana.

These Butte-Irish minstrels (Tom Powers, Mick Cavanaugh, John Joyner and Jim Schulz), have been performing and recording for 25 years. They have been featured on Rich Warren’s “The Midnight Special” (WFMT Chicago); Penn State’s “The Folk Show,” and NPR’s shows “Here and Now” with Robin Young and “Thistle & Shamrock” with Fiona Ritchie.

Willson & McKee began making music and touring together in 1990. They’ve toured widely, from Quonset huts to 1500-seat auditoriums–plus a few Irish pubs–and have produced 14 albums. They’ve won awards in the U.S. and Ireland for their song writing and instrumental work. And they’re also great teachers. While in Helena, they’ll visit Warren and Bryant elementary schools to teach about their multiple instruments, including Celtic harp, accordion, Irish bouzouki, guitars, dulcimers, bodhran, and bagpipes.

A Celtic Cowboy Christmas started in the early 1990s, with Irish tunes, cowboy songs, hay bales and Christmas lights. We revived the tradition a few years ago, and it’s grown into one of Helena’s favorite Holiday events. Baby, it’s cold outside. We all need to warm each other’s hearts. Bring the whole family.
