      Making Ink with Bark

Join local artist Faith B. Logan in brewing your own iron gall ink from foraged acorn or jackpine bark, utilizing science, art and a bit of alchemy.  In the workshop you learn a little history of ink and ink making along with Faith’s personal experience with making ink.  She will be discussing her discoveries of ink colours along with the recipes that produce her results.  You will participate and learn how to distil the ink down from bark into ink.  Faith will also be sharing here vast swatch book of ink colours that she has created!  There will also be an opportunity to create using inks that have already been developed by Faith Logan, your instructor.   *Iron Gall ink was the standard ink formulation used in Europe for the fourteen-hundred year period between the 5th and 19th centuries, remained in widespread use well into the 20th century, and is still sold today.   Your take-home will include a notebook to document the process and a series of ink vials from that day.
